Working Group Priorities

Priorities

  • Support model developments (chemistry mechanisms, processes, emissions) for CAM7-chem Workhorse model in collaboration with other working groups with focus on chemistry and aerosols
  • Participation in model intercomparison projects (MIPs)
  • Development of regional refined configurations for CAM-chem through the MUSICA framework
  • Support and analysis of Aircraft campaigns (e.g., ATom, KORUS-AQ, SOAS, NOMADSS, SEAC4RS, ASIA-AQ)
  • Improve OH representation by including VSl and methane emissions
  • Development of chemical forecasting capabilities and data assimilation
    • Regional refined forecasts over CONUS

Open Science Questions

  • The role of interactive fires in the climate system
  • Importance of an improved scalability of lightning parameterizations with changing scales
  • Couplings between atmosphere and other components (land and ocean)
  • Updates in aqueous-phase chemistry
  • Changes in atmosphere composition in a changing climate
  • Role of interactive carbon cycle (emissions-based CO2 and CH4)
