Main content

Please join us for a workshop on regional ocean modeling October 13-17, 2025 in person at the NSF NCAR Mesa Lab, Boulder, CO!

We want YOU to be up and running a regional ocean model, with all the necessary forcing files, boundary conditions, etc., for arbitrary domains and model resolutions, including data assimilation capabilities, in a matter of hours rather than weeks or months! At NSF NCAR and WHOI, as part of the NSF-funded CROCODILE  project, we are building Python and Jupyter notebook tools to configure new domains in MOM6 using the Community Earth System Model. Check out our documentation and demos online.

This is our first workshop to showcase capabilities, train new users, and develop new collaborations. The planned agenda starts from fundamentals of ocean numerical modeling and continues to labs using Jupyter-based tools for model configuration. A substantial part of the week will be dedicated to collaborative coding on new applications and features.

The deadline to apply and request travel support via this form is Monday, August 18th. We can accommodate up to 40 external participants. In the event of receiving additional applications, participants will be selected based on career stage and relevance to their interests and work.

Funds are available to support travel and lodging for up to 20 participants, also selected based on stated need, career stage, and relevance.

There is a registration fee of $100; a payment link will be sent to participants not receiving travel support in early September.
