CCSM CVCWG Experiments: CAM3 Extension Simulations

Brief Description Various CAM3 experiments were extended from January 2001 through December 2008 (or 2009) using observed SSTs and/or AR4 A1B forcings (if needed).
Simulation Descriptions The simulations that were extended:
  • CAM3 T85 GOGA (eul128x256_d63vamip_0?b)
    5-member ensemble running from 2000-2008. An extension of the CAM3 T85 GOGA ensemble that runs from 1950-2000.
  • CAM3 T85 IPCC-GOGA (eul128x256_d70iamip_0?b)
    5-member ensemble running from 2001-2008. An extension of the CAM3 T85 IPCC-GOGA ensemble that runs from 1950-2000.
  • CAM3 T85 RADATM (eul128x256_d70sstcl_iforc_0?b)
    5-member ensemble running from 2000-2008. An extension of the CAM3 T85 RADATM ensemble that runs from 1950-2000.
  • CAM3 T85 TOGA (eul128x256_d63vamip_trpsst_0?)
    5-member ensemble running from 2001-2009. An extension of the CAM3 T85 TOGA ensemble that runs from 1950-2000.
  • CAM3 T42 GOGA (eul64x128_d63vamip_0?b)
    5-member ensemble running from 2000-2008. An extension of the CAM3 T42 GOGA ensemble that runs from 1950-2000.
  • CAM3 T42 IPCC-GOGA (eul64x128_d63iamip_0?b)
    5-member ensemble running from 2001-2008. An extension of the CAM3 T42 IPCC-GOGA ensemble that runs from 1950-2000.
  • CAM3 T42 RADATM (eul64x128_d70sstcl_iforc_0?b)
    5-member ensemble running from 2000-2008. An extension of the CAM3 T42 RADATM ensemble that runs from 1950-2000.
  • CAM3 T42 TOGA (eul64x128_d70vamip_trpsst_0?)
    5-member ensemble running from 2001-2009. An extension of the CAM3 T42 TOGA ensemble that runs from 1950-2000.
GOGA and TOGA extension runs utilize observed time-varying SST forcings from 2000-2009.
IPCC-GOGA extension runs utilize IPCC AR4 A1B volcanic, greenhouse gas, aerosol and solar forcings, along with observed time-varying SST forcings.
RADATM extension runs utilize IPCC AR4 A1B volcanic, greenhouse gas, aerosol and solar forcings.

Notes A few runs were started in January 2000 (as opposed to January 2001). If combining the larger ensembles with the extensions, it is recommended that you use 1950-2000 from the original ensembles, and 2001-2009 from the extension runs.

Note: These experiments were run with cam versions 2.0.2dev63 / 2.0.2dev70. Both versions = CAM3.0, and both reproduce the same climate.

Atmospheric history file nomenclature: "h0" in the file name (ex. eul64x128_d63iamip_04.cam2.h0.1975-01.nc) denotes monthly data, "h1" denotes daily data, "h2" denotes 4X daily data.
