Acknowledgements in CESM Papers
Whether writing papers for the J. Climate Special Collection papers on CCSM4.0 and CESM1.0 (http://www.cesm.ucar.edu/publications/pub.info.html) or you are just beginning to analyze some of our released CMIP5 simulations (http://www.cesm.ucar.edu/experiments/cesm1.0/), it is very important to acknowledge our sponsors and the agencies that make this work possible. In particular, both NSF and DOE are major sponsors of CESM, and computing time is provided by NCAR CISL and DOE.
Appropriate acknowledgment of NSF and DOE sponsorship is: "The CESM project is supported by the National Science Foundation and the Office of Science (BER) of the U.S. Department of Energy".
For NCAR authors please do not forget to add "NCAR is sponsored by the National Science Foundation".
Regarding computing, for simulations performed at NCAR, please use the following:
"Computing resources were provided by the Climate Simulation Laboratory at NCAR's Computational and Information Systems Laboratory (CISL), sponsored by the National Science Foundation and other agencies".
For all papers analyzing CMIP5 simulations performed on NCAR CISL/Bluefire, please also add:
"This research was enabled by CISL compute and storage resources. Bluefire, a 4,064-processor IBM Power6 resource with a peak of 77 TeraFLOPS provided more than 7.5 million computing hours, the GLADE high-speed disk resources provided 0.4 PetaBytes of dedicated disk and CISL's 12-PB HPSS archive provided over 1 PetaByte of storage in support of this research project".
For simulations performed at NERSC or ORNL:
NERSC: "This research used resources of the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center, which is supported by the Office of Science (BER) of the U.S. Department of Energy under Contract No. DE-AC02-05CH11231".
ORNL: "This research used resources of the Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility, located in the National Center for Computational Sciences at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, which is supported by the Office of Science (BER) of the Department of Energy under Contract DE-AC05-00OR22725".
If you are unsure of where the simulations were performed, please click the "Details" box associated with each simulation at http://www.cesm.ucar.edu/experiments/cesm1.0/.
