Fifth Annual CCSM Workshop Announcement
Breckenridge, Colorado, 27 to 29 June 2000
The Community Climate System Model (CCSM) project has been
developed under the National Science Foundation's (NSF) sponsorship at
NCAR, with
support provided also by the Department of Energy (DOE), the National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the National
Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) as part of the U.S. Global
Change Research Program. The project is coordinated by a Scientific
Steering Committee consisting of both NCAR and non-NCAR scientists.
Over the past year, the CCSM Plan (2000-2005) has been
written and will be available at the workshop. Development of CCSM-2
has progressed and consists of atmospheric and oceanic general
circulation models, a land surface biophysics model, and a sea-ice
model. The model components are connected by a mass and energy
conserving coupler that also allows flexibility in the spatial
resolutions of the component models and straightforward implementation
of alternate components. Also, an ensemble of the Climate of the 20th
Century runs and additional IPCC scenarios of the 21st Century runs
have been completed.
The 2000 CCSM Workshop is scheduled at
the same conference center as last year, The
Village at Breckenridge, from Tuesday, 27 June 2000, to
Thursday, 29 June 2000, in Breckenridge, Colorado (please see logistical information). A draft agenda is
in progress. The workshop is open, but space is limited. Therefore,
anyone interested in attending the workshop must send in a registration
form before Friday, 5 May 2000. Registration forms can also be
mailed or faxed if necessary. All participants MUST register,
although registration may not guarantee attendance depending on
availability of space. Limited travel funds may be available, and the
registration form should indicate details of any financial
requirements needed and also your previous participation in the CCSM
project.
